The Helderberg area of the Western Cape is the area around Strand, Somerset West and Gordon's Bay.

Map of the Helderberg area on False Bay. So named by the Portuguese in the 15th century when they mistakenly thought they have rounded the Cape of Good Hope when they actually only sailed into the largest bay in South Africa

I have just returned to Manchester (UK) following a very short visit to Somerset West over the weekend to visit the Helderberg Nature Reserve. Old friends, Shiraz and The Dooleys Family were entertaining during a Summer Picnic Concert which was a great afternoon in one of the most beautiful areas I have ever visited. I really hope that I can get down to the Western Cape again soon, it is absolutely beautiful.

Dear Jaco! Found your page by chance today when I was looking for the Cosy Cottage with Jens. Thus, it was a pleasure to find you in the web before meeting you personally. Best regards Holger/Germany

I'm a South African but a permanent US resident residing in New Jersey. I have to echo the comment below...man, dis wragtag die mooiste plek in die wereld! As kids we grew up in the Strand for 3 years before my Dad was transferred to JHB. My mother currently lives there. In the winter time the snow capped Helderberg and Hottentots Holland mountains were the first thing we would see when opening the back door. Man, die heimwee darem...

Dear Jaco Could we exchange links? We are busy with designing an accommodation web site (www.touchdownsouth.com) and would like to exhange links with you. As well as could we use some of your photographs on our website, e.g. the one of the Strand? Very nice site! Kind regards, Maret (Tel 021-856-2412)
