Extracts from United Nations Press release

This Press Release was issued two weeks after the state sponsored farm invasions started in Zimbabwe

Press Release (31 March 2000)

GENEVA, 24 March (UN Information Service)

The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination this afternoon concluded its fifty-sixth session after examining reports on efforts by the Governments of France, Zimbabwe, Denmark, Malta, Spain, Tonga, Rwanda, Estonia, Lesotho, Bahrain and Australia to implement the provisions of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

On the report from Zimbabwe, the Committee welcomed the country's recent enactment of the Prevention of Discrimination Act. ... The Committee also welcomed the country's initiative to introduce human rights training for Government employees...

...with respect to land redistribution, the Committee regretted that very little progress had been made in this regard. It recommended that the State party ... consider the possibility of communal access to commercial farm land.

This is really unbelievable!

Mugabe fears losing an election and decide to unleash his hordes in an orgy of violence against his political opponents. Those targeted are either members of the opposition MDC, or white farmers and their workers. In stead of acting against this racist tin pot despot, the so-called UN COMMITTEE ON ELIMINATION OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION supported these actions, so detrimental to the whole Southern African region.

(In true Orwellian fashion, this racist body, with a name straight out of 1984, subsequently seemed to have removed RD/900 from their website - I suppose, in hind sight, even they are embarrassed...)

Check it out by searching for "RD/900" at: UN Archives This is where the embarrassing web page used to be available...
